The basic story of Aladdin and the magic lamp may have its origins as long as a millennium ago. It is one of the tales told by Scheherazade in One Thousand and One Nights, and the earliest known manuscripts of that work date to the 9th century. Aladdin's tale was not included until the 1700s, but it's thought to be at least as old as some of the other stories.

We have a range of costumes to fit the whole family so you can be Jasmine, Aladdin/Ali, Abu the monkey, the Genie, the Sultan, or the villainous Jafar. So take a magic carpet ride to a whole new world, to the movie soundtrack that won 2 Academy Awards and 5 Grammys. Disney is also back at it again with Aladdin in the live-action version. Mena Massoud, who stars as Aladdin, is joined by Naomi Scott and Will Smith who will take on the roles of Princess Jasmine and Genie. Choose one of our costumes for a classic Aladdin style or mix and match our live-action costumes for a whole new look!

Aladdin Costume Ideas

The fine folks at Disney really do know how to work animation magic! They’ve been making stunning animations and telling memorable stories for nearly a century now, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Frozen. Of course, few movies leave an impression quite like the adventurous tale of Aladdin. Based on the classic Middle Eastern folk legend, it chronicles Aladdin’s transformation from lowly street rat to the beloved hero of Agrabah. It teaches us that no matter where a person comes from, they have the potential to do great things. It also teaches us that genies are totally awesome! So, it comes as no surprise that dressing up in a costume based on the film is a great idea for your next costume party. Disney’s Aladdin has so many great characters and scenes, so exactly where do you begin when crafting a look based on the movie? Well, that’s where we come in. We’ve watched the film an extensive number of times plus we will help you get a great Aladdin costume without breaking the bank. After all, costumes are kind of our thing. Just check out our handy guide to Aladdin costume ideas and you should be able to find something that’s perfect for you. Whether you need Jasmine and Aladdin costumes for a couple, or you're looking to become the villain in the story by wearing a Jafar costume - we've got you covered.

Aladdin Costumes

When thinking about a great Aladdin costume, the first idea that comes to anyone’s mind is the renowned street rat himself, Al! In the course of the movie, he goes from an adventurous youth with nothing but his wits to a wealthy prince, ready to take the hand of Princess Jasmine. We have plenty of outfits that let you step into the role of Prince Ali both before and after he met his new best pal, Genie. Let’s take a look at a few of the costumes inspired by the Disney character.

Aladdin Costume

Here, we have the adult classic Aladdin costume. The charming prince wasn’t always such a lucky fellow. He spent a good portion of his youth living on the street, stealing bread and keeping himself one jump ahead of the bread line (and one swing ahead of the sword). In those days, his only friend was Abu the monkey, and his wardrobe was a little lacking. He wore a simple purple vest and a set of patched loose pants, the only thing a “street rat” like himself could afford. You can wear this outfit knowing that good fortune awaits you in the near future, but beware! You may have to dodge the palace guards on more than one occasion while you wear this street rat Aladdin costume.

Prince Ali Aladdin Costume

Prince Ali Aladdin Costume

Al’s life changes pretty dramatically after he finds a magical lamp and a big blue genie pops out. Not only does he get to change out of the scrappy clothes from his life on the streets, but he also scores a date with the girl of his dreams. Obviously, a simple guy living in the slums of Agrabah has little chance with a princess, but what about a prince? Well, he’s got a much better chance! Nothing is quite as it seems though, as Al soon finds out. But you certainly can’t deny how dashing he looks when he’s all dressed up in his royal garb. Just imagine the look on your favorite princess’s face when you ride up to her castle on your magic carpet while wearing this fancy adult Prince Ali costume!

Women's Aladddin Costume

Women's Aladddin Costume

Princess Jasmine is one of the best Disney Princesses out there, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck dressing up as her if you’re a girl! With a little bit of creativity and this women’s Aladdin costume, you can gender bend the role and head out on an adventure to the Cave of Wonders to find a lamp of your own. This costume comes with a purple vest that puts a slightly sultry spin on the character. It also comes with a set of sheer, baggy pants and panties, providing a look that should have you ready to mingle with princesses, monkeys, and big blue genies! We recommend picking up one of our sword accessories, since you may need to fight off an evil vizier like Jafar.

Abu Costume

Abu Costume

Let’s not forget Aladdin’s furry pal, Abu! Before he found new pals in the Cave of Wonders, Al’s only friend was his thieving little monkey criminal accomplice. If you plan on dressing up as Aladdin, then you’re going to need a partner in crime yourself. This Abu costume for kids works perfectly for that! It’s a Japanese Kigurumi style pajama outfit that will let any kid turn into a mischievous little simian cohort. It’s made of an uber-soft fleece material too, so when you gear your kid up in a cute animal costume, you might have to keep an eye on him. He might end up taking a nap right in the middle of your next big adventure. (It’s also available in adult size.)

Genie Costumes

Genie is like the all-powerful superhero in the Aladdin world. Seriously, he has more powers than Superman, but he’s mostly restricted to using them when granting the three wishes of his master (at least until the end of the movie). If you want to become a character with limitless power, then a Genie costume is for you! In the film, he was voiced by Robin Williams, so you’ll need quite the animated attitude to play that role- but at least with one of our Genie costumes, you’ll have the look down easily.

Genie Costume

Genie Costume

Chances are that you don’t have the blue skin of a real genie, so you’ll need a little help in getting the look of the iconic Disney character. The good news is that the folks from Disney have already created a licensed costume based on him, so all you have to do is get this adult Genie costume. Too bad it doesn’t actually give you the powers he had in the film. (If this costume did that, then we might just keep it for ourselves!)

Tourist T-Shirt

B. Tourist T-Shirt

The best part about Genie is his fourth-wall-breaking tendencies and his ability to go outside the entire plot to make some jokes. You can do this, too, by pairing up a Genie costume with a tourist t-shirt to recreate some of the funny moments from the movie. Make sure to add a few details like bringing along your own suitcase or a slinging a camera around your neck.

Jasmine Costumes

Jasmine isn’t quite like some of the other Disney Princesses. She’s part of the new wave of headstrong princesses who don’t just sit around in a castle, waiting for their prince to save them. Instead, she’s busting out of the castle and looking for adventure! Many princesses since Princess Jasmine have followed suit! Princesses like Merida, Rapunzel, and Moana have all done the same. Is it a coincidence? Maybe, but we like to think that Jasmine helped inspire some of that rebellious behavior.

Jasmine Costume

Jasmine Costume

Jasmine isn’t quite the classical princess. She doesn’t wear long, flowy dresses and she doesn’t have a giant crown. Instead, she wears a simple turquoise outfit that seems like it’d be pretty comfortable in the blazing hot weather. This women’s Jasmine costume comes with a top and pants that let you look ready for the warm Agrabah days!

Child Jasmine Costume

Child Jasmine Costume

This prestige child Jasmine costume is perfect for your little girl! It looks just like the Disney movie character and turns into a cute and comfortable jumpsuit for playing the role of her favorite princess. She’ll be ready for a trip on a magic carpet ride across the desert in no time.

Princess Jasmine Costume

Princess Jasmine Costume

Here’s another take on the Princess Jasmine costume. This one comes with a satin-style top and pants in the turquoise colors from the cartoon movie. The pants also come with an overlay as a nice accent piece. The finishing piece is the included tiara, which should have you ready to rule all of Agrabah.

Jasmine Costume for Girls

Jasmine Costume for Girls

This last great Princess Jasmine costume option adds a little bit of sparkle into the mix! We can only imagine how great a Jasmine costume for girls would look in the desert, since the included jumpsuit has plenty of glittering accents on the pants and top for a truly regal look. It also comes with a tiara, perfect for establishing your girl as the newest little princess in the neighborhood.

Jafar Costumes

Not everyone is cut out to be the hero of a story. Some of us like to indulge in our dark side a little bit. For those types, the evil Jafar makes for a deliciously villainous choice. Throughout the course of the film, he tries to usurp the throne, kidnap the princess, steal the Genie for himself, and kill Aladdin. He’s definitely one bad dude! If you’re feeling a little bit villainous yourself, then perhaps it’s time that you checked out one of our Jafar costumes to become the antagonist of your Aladdin-themed costume group.

Jafar Costume

Jafar Costume

To get the look of a vicious vizier bent on ruling Agrabah as its almighty ruler, you’re going to need something with a deadly and magical style. This Disney Jafar Costume features a style that might just have you plotting a coup d'état on the local sultan. Now, if you truly want to become the villain, you’re going to have to learn a whole bunch of sorcerous spells to cast in your quest for power and you’ll have to be ready to put that pesky Aladdin in his place. At least with this Jafar costume, you should have a look that’s evil enough to command some serious respect from parrots, whether or not you have any magical abilities.

Iago Costume

Iago Costume

Every villain needs his sidekick! It’s a longstanding tradition for Disney villains to have a comic relief animal sidekick that helps them during their nefarious schemes. Ursula from The Little Mermaid had Jetsam and Flotsam. Maleficent had Diablo the raven in Sleeping Beauty. Jafar is definitely no exception! He’s been bossing around Iago the smart-mouthed parrot for some time. Now, when you dress up like Jafar, you can bring along a pal to dress up in this parrot costume, which makes for the perfect Iago costume. It has the bright colors of a macaw and a fuzzy exterior.

Aladdin Costume Accessories

Getting all the great Aladdin costumes is the first step to creating the best Aladdin group costume, but everyone knows that grabbing a few costume accessories is the best way to put the finishing touch on your look. We carry a whole assortment of Aladdin costume accessories to help you craft a Disney experience. After all, could you tell the amazing story of Aladdin without the magic lamp? Could Jafar be as evil without his staff and hat? We’ve narrowed it down to some of the best Aladdin movie accessories. Here are a few of our favorite ones.

Genie Lamp

Genie Lamp

Without a magical lamp, there is no story to tell. This Genie Lamp accessory is truly where any Aladdin-themed costume should start. The lamp has a faux gold exterior which makes it look like a real piece of treasure from a secret cache of riches. The accessory even opens up to reveal a small compartment where you can place little items inside! Unfortunately, a magic genie won’t pop out of it no matter how many times you rub it. It goes great with any Aladdin costume, Genie costume, or Princess Jasmine costume.

Jafar Staff

Jafar Staff

What kind of evil wizard would you be without a magic staff? Not a very good one, that’s for sure! Every evil wizard has one, or at least a wand. Maleficent has one. Voldemort from Harry Potter has one. And if you plan on dressing up as Jafar, then you’d better have one too. This cobra staff might not actually help you hypnotize any sultans, but it does have a realistic look. With a gold serpent head, it’s perfect to carry around while you plot your next villainous scheme.

Jafar Headpiece

Jafar Headpiece

What’s the most distinctive part of Jafar’s look? His pencil thin beard? Maybe the long, lanky build? Nope! It’s that big hat of his. Isn’t it amazing? It has the evil wizard kind of thing going on, but it’s mixed with a regal sultan appearance. This Jafar headpiece gives you the signature style hat for you to wear anywhere. Whether you use it for the purposes of evil, or just as a way for you to cosplay as the coolest Disney villain around is completely up to you.

Cutlass

Cutlass

When palace guards, evil wizards, and even your girlfriend’s pet tiger are out to get you, it’s a good idea to have a little protection handy. Having a genie and a magic carpet as your best pals is a great start, but nothing beats a trusty sword at your side. This Arabian cutlass accessory is one of our toy weapons that fits quite nicely with any of our Aladdin costumes.
