Alabama

Bear Creek Swamp: Haunted by the ghost of a mother in search of her lost child. Reports of strange orbs, lights appearing randomly, and a wandering woman in the swamp. Others report of dead car batteries or trouble with cars while driving through the swamp. In November of 2014 the Sheriff's office found  21 dolls on bamboo stakes throughout the swamp.

Alaska 

Motherlode Lodge: Reports of voices, whispering, banging on doors, and curtains opening and closing at night. It was destroyed in a fire in 2015 for an unknown reason. Passing by witnesses have seen a misty black apparition wondering on the grounds of the lodge and say if you look into the window you can see figures dressed in old period clothing.

Arizona  

Oliver House: Reports of guests hearing footsteps, sounds of old parties, and guests having feelings of being watched after a mass murder spree long ago. Story of a jealous policeman who discovered his wife having an affair and he went to the Oliver house and shot and killed his wife and her lover. He then went on a murder spree and killed most of the people in the house then committed suicide.

Arkansas 

Cotter Bridge, Hwy 62: Reports of random rocks being thrown, ghost children playing on tracks and under the bridge, and sounds of crying babies near the bridge. Witnesses have also reported seeing a ghostly screaming and crying woman being chased by hounds at night.

California 

Los Coches Adobe: A mine where a horrible accident occurred where 30 miners died when it collapsed. Reports of screams of trapped miners from an old well nearby. Other reports of a woman in black wandering the grounds around nightfall. People suspect that she is a witch and sometimes you can hear her distant screams.

Colorado 

Highlands Ranch Mansion: Built in 1891 Frank Kistler and his daughter moved into the mansion in 1926. The young daughter of the owner was abandoned after he remarried. Reports of hearing a woman's sobs, strong smells of perfume, and lights turning on and off.

Connecticut 

Sterling Opera House: The basement was used as a prison for 20 years. Held prolific serial killers and reports of seeing a young boy roaming the halls and his faded cries. According to ghost hunters this little boy's name is Andy and he is a spirit trapped in the opera house. Visitors have even brought toys and bouncy balls for him to play with.

Delaware 

Lum's Pond State Park: A runaway girl who was living in an unhappy house ran to these woods in the 1970s and was murdered here where her killer was never found. Police found her body but never found who was responsible. Reports from people in the park of high-pitched screams and pleading coming from the woods.

Florida 

Bellamy Bridge: Haunted by the restless ghost of a woman who was burned alive on her wedding day in the 1830s and buried by the bridge, reports of seeing her in her white wedding dress. She is reported being seen only on dark foggy nights on the bridge. She was buried in a family cemetery close to the old bridge.

Georgia  

Old Candler Hospital: 1700+ people died here from yellow fever in the 1800s. Dead patients were then put underground and reports of ghost sightings in the windows and underground tunnels. There are rumors about shock therapy and other treatments that were horrifying to the patients. Some people even report seeing bodies being hung on the large oak tree known as the Hanging tree.

Hawaii  

Nuuanu Pali Lookout: 400 warriors were forced off the edge of the lookout to their deaths after a defeat. Reports of howling and crying of fallen warriors and shadowy figures. Construction workers found about 800 human skulls in the valley in the 1890s. It is now home to modern highways and hiking trails.

Idaho 

Shoshone Indian Ice Caves: Resting place of an Indian princess in the ice many decades ago in the cave. Employees and guests hear hushed voices, whispering, and footsteps. Reports of seeing ghostly shadows wandering around the cave when no one is supposed to be there.

Illinois 

Englewood Post Office: Used to be the home of serial killer of H.H. Holmes where he would have stairwells that lead to walls, hallways that would have a dead end, and no doors to confuse his victims. Serial killer, H.H. Holmes lured and murdered countless victims here. Reports of feelings of fear, anxiety, and dread in the basements.

Indiana  

Avon Haunted Bridge: A railroad bridge built in 1906 where a woman and her baby fell to their death. It is said that every time you honk under the bridge you can hear her wailing. There is a different version that the woman's baby was sick and as she hurried her foot got stuck in the track and her baby fell to its death.

Iowa 

Farrar Schoolhouse: Reports of voices, slamming doors, shadow people and orbs, and a small boy standing on the stairwell. Visitors also report feelings of dread and anxiety. A couple purchased it in 2006 and attempted to restore it but discovered that it was too haunted.

Kansas 

Fort Hays State: Military fort where a woman worked herself until she died. Before she died, she would wander Sentinel Hill. Reports of her ghost wandering wearing a blue dress and white bonnet. Her spirit allegedly emits a blue light so she is called the Blue Light Lady. She was then buried there and her gravesite read "The Lonely Grave."

Kentucky 

Benham School House Inn: An inn that used to be a high school but is now abandoned. Reports of running footsteps, laughter, doors slamming, and lights turning on and off. It has now been converted to an inn where you can stay.

Louisiana 

Pleasant Hall, Louisiana State University: It was once the site of a murder-suicide, reports of eerie noises, whispers and voices, and lights and shadows inside the room. The elevator opens and closes randomly on different floors. An employee with their grandchild rode in the elevator and the little boy asked "why is that skinny lady in here with the elevator with us?"

Maine 

Route 2A: A dangerous road with many fatal car accidents. Reports of little girl on the side of road who was hit by a semi and disappearing woman wandering the highway. Rumors of a woman screaming that a husband is trapped in a vehicle but when travelers stop the woman disappears.

Maryland 

Glenn Dale Hospital: Housed many tuberculosis patients during the height of the epidemic. Rumors of torture and experimental treatments, reports of yelling, banging, laughter and smelling of burning flesh. The Goat of Maryland, a half-man, half-goat creature is rumored to haunt these grounds.

Massachusetts 

The Hoosac Tunnel: A tunnel where 196 people were killed after an explosion, reports of cries of agony, ghosts of miners wandering the tunnel, and floating lanterns in the dark. 30 more people were killed after an explosion. Engineers and workers hear cries and moans of men and even have seen orbs of light in the shape of people.

Michigan 

South Manitou Island: Island where a ship full of people with cholera landed and sailors burned the deceased the victims in a mass grave while some alive at the time. Reports of voices and screams. A past park ranger stationed on the island reported of hearing voices, footsteps, and slamming doors inside empty buildings.

Minnesota 

First Ave Theatre: Haunted by a woman who hung herself in the bathroom stall. Reports of seeing her bloated body hanging and balloons appearing and floating up and down the stairs. Employees of the theatre also reported of their hair being randomly pulled.

Mississippi 

Waverly Mansion: Haunted by a girl who is still searching for her mother. Reports of hearing a little girl call out "mama" and whimpering. She is known to sleep in beds leaving indents in the beds. Numerous reports of people hearing phantom music and laughing coming from the parlor room of the home.

Missouri 

Smallett Cave: Story of a headless cobbler who was beheaded for siding with the union. Reports of seeing a headless figure wandering around still looking for his head with a lantern. Other people report of hearing someone working with a small hammer and some hunters even sent their dogs in the cave to flush it out and they come back out whimpering with their tails between their legs.

Montana 

Bear Canyon: Reports of sightings of a little girl in a white dress waving and smiling. Campers and hikers say this little girl tries to lure females away from the trail and into the woods. The females that do follow her are led to the middle of no where after the girl disappears. Some people have even claimed to hear their names called by the voice of a little girl.

Nebraska 

Seven Sisters Road: In the late 19th century a man forcibly hung 7 sisters one by one on each tree along that road. The hanging trees were chopped down and no one knows what happened to their bodies. Reports of hearing women screaming and cars stalling or car batteries dying. Other people have heard bells ringing from a nearby private cemetery.

Nevada  

Yellow Jacket Mine: A mine that lit up in flames in 1869. The fire killed more than 35 but not all the bodies were recovered. Reports of heavy footsteps, faint screams, and tools being thrown around. Recently, the foreman went to the mine to recover some tools and heard heavy footsteps in the abandoned area above. He then called out who was there and the shovels were violently thrown.

New Hampshire 

The Chase House: An orphanage for children where a young girl hung herself in the bedroom. Reports of screaming inside the room she died and a small wandering figure. Visitors report the doors locking and unlocking and electricity switching on and off.

Lambertville High School: A young boy who died from a broken neck at a football game after a rough tackle. Reports of cold spots and sightings of the apparition of the boy. One night drunk rowdy teens went to the abandoned school made fun of the dead boy. Later that night the two boys of that group died.

New Mexico 

Albuquerque Press Club: Built in 1903 as a family house it is now haunted by the spirit of one of the old home owners. Reports of hearing her high heels walking in the house and the piano playing. Also reports of a ghost in the form of a woman in a black shawl.

New York 

Utica State Hospital: Abandoned asylum that performed lobotomies, electroshock therapy, and had filthy conditions. Reports of patients wandering the halls, faces looking out the windows and screaming from the buildings. There were three instances of fires that killed several people started by a previous employee of the asylum.

North Carolina 

Lydia's Bridge: Story of a young woman named Lydia who was killed in a car crash with her date on the bridge on their way home. Her date died on impact, but she was injured and tried finding help. No help came and she eventually died. Reports of seeing her standing on the bridge trying to flag down drivers and sometimes in their back seats.

North Dakota 

St Joseph’s Hospital: Reports of elevator going down to the morgue and operates itself randomly. Some reports of disembodied voices in the cafeteria and running footsteps in the basement. It is now home to a haunted house attraction but beware it is still haunted by the ghosts of the past.

Ohio 

Fudge Road Bridge: It is said a young mother threw her unwanted baby off the bridge and hung herself due to the guilt from the bridge. Another version says that her baby was still born and she was so distraught that she hung herself from the bridge. Reports of an infant crying and sightings of a hanging woman.

Oklahoma 

Veterans Lake: A woman tried to save her downing child and failed, and they both drowned.  A few years later a little girl died in a boating accident. Reports of the lady and the girl can be seen in the lake and rumors that if you go after dark you will be pulled under the water and drown

Oregon  

Croisan Creek Road: Haunted by the spirit of a little girl who was killed by a speeding car. Reports of seeing a little girl at the side of the road and chasing a ball into the road. Often times she is also with a boy at the other side of the road waving at people to slow them down but when people look back he is never there.

Pennsylvania 

Fort Mifflin: Haunted by a woman who hung herself in the officer's quarters. Reports of hearing her scream in that same room, being grabbed, pushed, and held. Also home to a ghostly entity named the faceless man where he roams the jail cells. He was a union soldier who was executed for accidently shooting his enrolling officer.

Rhode Island 

Fort Wetherill: Haunted by a black dog with red eyes since the revolutionary era. People have seen him glaring and disappearing through the walls. Reports of growling, barking, and howling. Soldiers who were stationed here believed that if the dog looked at you it was a warning that death was near.

South Carolina 

The Hermitage: A doctor moved into the house (hermitage) with his sister. She fell in love with a lumberman but the brother did not approve he sent her away but she got malaria and died. Her brother brought her home and discovered an engagement ring around her neck. Out of anger he threw it into the marsh. Reports of seeing the sister walking around the hermitage and around the grave clutching on to her chest trying to find her ring.

South Dakota 

Devil's Gulch: Haunted by the ghost of two lovers from the 1800s who were both killed by outlaws. Reports of seeing the two lovers near the waterfall and hearing screams. Visitors have taken pictures with a ghostly face is in the background. This is also the place where outlaw Jessie James jumped tried to escape the law after robbing a bank in Minnesota.

Tennessee 

Sensabaugh Tunnel: A family was murdered that lived near the tunnel. Reports of a crying baby in the tunnel, floating orbs, and seeing the murdered family members. People claim that if you drive through the tunnel and turn off your car engine, it will not turn back on and you will see a ghostly man in your mirror.

Texas 

Bragg Road: Story of a railroad worker who was decapitated by a train. Reports of headless figure searching for his head with a flickering light on the road. People report seeing a single floating light in the middle of the road during the night.

Utah 

Moon Lake: Story of a young girl who drowned and is wandering the lake looking for her family. Reports of seeing her dripping wet and her skin bloated and blue. Visitors report that she appears in broad daylight and can be seen in the woods or fishing on the banks. She will approach you sobbing asking for your help and appears to be about seven years old.

Vermont 

Railroad Bridge of Hartford: Site of a railroad crash killing 36 passengers with people getting crushed, burned, and drowned in 1887. Reports of a screaming, a young boy in the water, and a lingering scent of burning wood. The people of Hartford, Vermont try to avoid this bridge at night.

Virginia  


Staunton Train Depot: A train crashed into this depot killing a seventeen-year-old girl who died quickly after due to terrible injuries. Burned down in 1864 where several people died. Reports of a little girl, confederate soldier, and older mental patients roaming around. Reports of the girl and her spirit is known to pull at the hairs of female travelers.

Washington 

Starvation Heights Sanitarium: Ran by a doctor who starved her patients to treat them for their sickness. Many patients died due to this. It is estimated that around two dozen to forty people and maybe even more died due to this. Reports of former patients roaming the ruins of the buildings.

West Virginia 

North Bend Trail Tunnel 9: Reports that date back to 1910 of a young lady in a flowing white dress standing on the tracks, to this day no one knows why she haunts this tunnel, but human bones were found under a house very close by. There are theories that she was a bride who was riding on the train and either was pushed or fell from the train and died.

Wisconsin 

Callan Road: Story of a spirit of an old and evil witch who haunts the woods surrounding this road. Reports of seeing the witch at night, laughing, and strange flashes in the woods. Some reports also say that there is an apparition of a young girl peeking out from behind the trees.

Wyoming 

Heart Mountain Relocation Center: Used as a relocation camp for the Japanese in WW2. Japanese in the U.S. at the time were put into these camps in harsh conditions and worked for a miniscule salary sometimes $12 - $19 a month. Reports of footsteps, cold spots, and unexplained noises in the main building.
