Halloween is, in our totally biased opinion, the best holiday of the year. However, it takes too long to get to October, and it's always over too soon. Fear not, Halloween enthusiasts, for there are ways to haunt your holidays all year long! You may have heard of newly-trending scary holidays like Valloween and Spooksgiving, but we'd like to keep that energy going for every major holiday. Here we'll share some fun and unique ways to put some horror into your holidays.
Grue Year's Eve
Start the year off right with a scary New Year's Eve party! We're calling it "Grue Year's Eve" seeing as that real estate's available. Set the mood with candles and dark tablecloths, and serve deep red drinks and decadent chocolate desserts. It may look a bit like a vampire party! Or, if you love the typical Great Gatsby theme for New Year's parties, turn it on its head by combining it with zombies or a black-and-white silent movie theme. We're sure there are plenty of other great and gruesome New Year's party ideas where that came from! If you need a movie to pair with the night, the aptly-named New Year's Evil is appropriately themed.
Valloween
Valloween has actually gained momentum as an alternate way to celebrate Valentine's Day, and we couldn't be more excited that it's getting some attention! Pop on a few horror movies (may we suggest 1981's My Bloody Valentine), share horror character-themed Valentine's Day cards, and find other ways to have a scary Valentine's Day. We even offer a few spooky Valentine's Day sweaters to help you express just how you feel this Valloween.
Spookpatrick's Day
Does green beer make you think of the slime in Troll 2? Do you make a habit of watching Leprechaun on St. Patrick's Day? Have a scary St. Patrick's Day celebration by serving drinks with creepy cocktail garnishes and macabre twists on Irish food. Share stories of scary Irish legends and tell tall tales about Celtic creatures. Take your typical St. Patrick's Day decorations and make them a little spooky too! Paint some shamrocks black or dress your resident skeleton in a leprechaun costume—everyone has one of those, right? It's time to get creative!
Eerie Easter
Prepare your favorite "Pastelloween" palettes and grab your Easter grass! We're prepping for an eerie Easter party. Place some pastel mini pumpkins in your decorative Easter baskets with your eggs, wear your scariest Easter Bunny costume, and add creepy branches in with fun florals. Spook up your Easter breakfast with red ketchup or sriracha on eggs, and strawberry or cherry jam on toast. You can even hide some slime eggs as part of your scary Easter egg hunt! As always, no holiday is safe from its fair share of holiday-related horror movies. Feaster Sunday and Easter Casket are just two of the scary Easter-related films you can watch!
Freaky 4th of July
Independence Day, but make it scary! There are actually quite a few 4th of July horror movies perfect for a freaky 4th party theme. You have Jaws and Independence Day, as well as The Purge and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Take your skeleton out of the closet and give it an Uncle Sam hat, and give your red, white, and blue decorations a little extra red with some painted blood spatter. There are tons of gruesome grill recipes to try too! If the weather's still cooperating, a fun outdoor horror movie showing for scary 4th of July is great as the main event of the night.
Halloween
The holiday you have been waiting for is finally here! We have tons of great Halloween party ideas to help you make the most of your holiday. Decorate your house, create a Halloween playlist, serve spooky foods and drinks—there's so much to do for Halloween! Of course, you're welcome to add your personal touch to how you do Halloween. There are tons of great ways to celebrate.
Spooksgiving
Although it feels like Halloween ended too soon, you can creep it real with a Spooksgiving celebration. (After all, is anything more macabre than celebrating by eating a dead bird?) Pumpkin decorations are still abundant by the time Thanksgiving rolls around, so you can just leave those up after Halloween. Make a creepy cranberry dish by adding eyeballs or skeleton hands as a garnish, and keep some of those black Halloween branches mixed in with your fall décor. To top off your night, you can always end your scary Thanksgiving party by watching ThanksKilling! (You'll thank us later.)
Creepy Christmas
Have yourself a creepy little Christmas! Decorate a black Christmas tree, or there are plenty of The Nightmare Before Christmas decorations if it's a theme you enjoy. You can even dredge up tales from scary Christmases past with Krampus stories and decorations. There are tons of great ways to customize your creepy Christmas. We'd also recommend sharing some of your favorite Christmas horror movies, from Silent Night, Deadly Night to Black Christmas (the 1974 version), and Anna and the Apocalypse. You can always watch more family-friendly fare for scary Christmas such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Gremlins, but you do yule.
We hope you're brimming with ideas to host all the haunted holidays! Have you ever had a unique spin on a normal holiday party? What do you think scary-themed holidays should be named? We'd love to hear your ideas in the comments. Don't forget to check through your Halloween decorations to find new ways to repurpose them for other holidays!
