Myths and urban legends often develop over time as they are formed by a community and changed through retelling the story. The Slender Man (also known as Slenderman or The Operator) has a similar origin, although this character was created by internet culture. If you were chronically online in 2009, you might have witnessed the birth of Slender Man. His mythos and influence have continued growing, spawning video games and movies. Back in the ‘80s there was a cop show that brought hip law enforcement to the beaches of Florida long before David Caruso and his zingers. In 1984 Miami Vice hit the airwaves brought to us by a young Michael Mann. The show starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs who were cops that set out to take out drug trafficking while new wave music played. The show lasted five seasons and has 111 episodes of Crocket and Tubbs dealing with cases of vicious drug kingpins and fierce prostitutes. Not only did it last a long time but the show had entered into America’s popular culture as a staple of ‘80s television and fashion. The Miami Vice outfits inspired many looks in fashion. Avengers: Endgame came out with a bang, grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide on opening weekend. This made it the biggest worldwide opening (at the time) over its predecessor Infinity War which held the previous record of $640 million. The release of the final movie in the Infinity Saga brought out many critics in regards to character evolutions, none more so than Thor who undergoes the biggest transformation of all. While some viewed this as hilarious others were outraged by the transformation into Bro Thor, accusing it of fat-shaming. He becomes the butt of many jokes throughout the movie. The Russo brothers and Chris Hemsworth, on the other hand, were delighted in how the character turned out, indicating that they had many conversations about the character arc before production began.
