Judy Garland Shoes Sell at Auction

The ruby slippers that Judy Garland wore in the original The Wizard of Oz movie were sold at auction for $28M on Saturday, December 7th, as reported by The Minnesota Star Tribune. The same slippers were stolen while on loan to the Judy Garland Museum (in Grand Rapids, MN) in 2005 and finally recovered in an FBI sting in 2018.

The 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz notably used an innovative technicolor process to show the world of Oz in full color, highlighting the ruby red slippers for cinema-goers. Since their debut, the red shoes have been the most iconic pair of shoes in Hollywood. While you may not get the chance to own the original ruby red slippers, you can find a pair to match your Dorothy costume for a lot less than $28M!

Judy Garland's ruby slippers may be the most iconic movie shoes, but that doesn't mean they're the only ones! Here's a handful of some of our favorite movie shoes that you can get without winning an auction. Marty McFly's Nike Mags had lights and self-lacing technology that made us wish for more advanced sneaker technology. You also have famous Disney shoes like Cinderella's glass slippers and Woody's cowboy boots. (Make sure they say "Andy" on the bottom!) And, as far as superhero shoes go, Wonder Woman's red boots stand out from the crowd. What are your favorite shoes from the movies?

Movie memorabilia is so much fun to look at, whether you're at a museum or privileged enough to own a piece or two. Did you ever wish you could own a magical pair of ruby-red slippers? Was there another pair of famous footwear you'd like to have from the silver screen? Let us know in the comments! Of course, we hope to provide you with as many of these cosplay shoes as possible to meet your costume needs.
